You Put Your Left Foot In, You Put Your Right Foot Out...

“President Obama has moved alarmingly Right of Center, making decisions about Iraq and Afghanistan that render him little more than Bush Lite.” –The Disappointed Left

Or…

“President Obama has moved alarmingly Left of Center with his Economic Stimulus Plan, revealing himself as a Trojan Horse Socialist.” – The Hysterical Right

As Obama’s new administration moves forward, there is so much shouting about the Right, the Left, the In and the Out that one might think Washington politicos were doing that silly, 1940s dance, The Hokey Pokey.

It’s understandable when ultra-conservatives like Rush Limbaugh and his ditto-head minions kick and scream over every move Obama makes. He is the charismatic man of color who outmaneuvered their WASP candidate, persuading Americans to vote for a bold new direction that Rush can’t find with the help of Mapquest, much less understand or engage.

Neither is it surprising, albeit sad, that Republican denial over the extent of their defeat in the last two elections further alienates the electorate that rejected them.

Most of all, though, it is thrilling how much creative debate is generated when a President operates out in the open instead of behind locked doors marked, “Keep Out.” Putting our Left foot in and our Right foot out as we dance the political Hokey-Pokey is exactly what we should be doing… legitimate dissent, debate and compromise are pillars of our Democracy, on par with the Pursuit of Happiness, All Men are Created Equal, and Every Vote Counts.

What, then, is the Left’s objection to Obama?

We should not ignore the sincere anguish of anti-war antagonists who cannot abide one more wartime loss of life, nor accept silence from the White House in response to the absurd Pentagon claim that Guantánamo Bay meets humanitarian standards laid out in the Geneva Conventions. Neither should we deny permission to human rights groups such as the ACLU to independently review conditions at Guantánamo Bay. These and similar issues are valid, and should be heard and addressed.

But there are some members of the Left whose sense of unease over Obama’s Presidency borders on mysticism. A case in point is the blogosphere claim by Doug Page at Dissident Voice that “Obamamania,” or unexamined enthusiasm for and support of the President, is the result of “the false myth of redemptive violence.” Page goes on to explain that…

“Our childhood TV shows, our comic books, many of our movies and our foreign policy are all founded on the false myth of redemptive violence. It promises to redeem, to restore order, law, peace and democracy, but it never does. This myth appears in The Lone Ranger, Batman, Superman, Cowboy Westerns, James Bond movies, TV games, modern adult movies and popular TV shows, and in our foreign policy and CIA. (How Doug makes the leap from Batman to the CIA is unclear, at least to this reader.) He continues… “No cooperation, community effort on our part or democracy is required… The good guys always win.”

In other words, Doug doesn’t like it that we suspend criticism of Presidents we like, or who we think support our views, because it “doesn’t seem necessary” to hold good guys accountable.

OK, then, Doug. Articulate what you don’t like about Good-Guy Obama’s views and we will listen, evaluate, and decide if we agree or disagree with you. By the way, we don’t need complex theories to persuade us that this is a good thing to do.

Another disturbing aspect of dissent from the Left is the odd assertion that we are making too much of racism, that it no longer suppresses the upward mobility of blacks. On a recent broadcast of the Bill Moyers Journal, black political commentator and linguistics scholar John McWhorter said, “…the fact of the matter is that when you look at the problems that the black community has, tracing them to racism has gotten so abstract that really I don't see and maybe I'm missing something. But I don't see how we could convince a significant proportion of the American population that racism was the main issue anymore.”

Really? What neighborhood does John McWhorter live in? It certainly isn’t in Prospect, Kentucky or Pacoima, California, where racist views from both sides are as heavy a burden on progress and mobility as a “Colored Only” sign.

I wonder if Mr. McWhorter has heard of the false myth of redemptive violence. It sounds like he just doesn’t want to believe that bigotry still exists in good-guy America.

Or is it that, below the surface of squeaky-clean Liberalism there is a current of unacknowledged racial mistrust? Because, with no disrespect to Bill Moyers, I find it less interesting that a black social commentator dismisses the notion that racism remains an issue than that a white program host considers it "thought provoking" to feature his views.

Meanwhile, as feet and hands and hips and elbows are put in and taken out in that dance of the Right and Left known as the Hokey-Pokey, there is one thing about Obama on which we can agree: he does, indeed, do it with “style and grace.”

Operates out in the open? Yak, obviously you don't request information from the government for a living.

I don't know if federal agencies aren't listening to the new Commander in Chief, or if he hasn't yet communicated his 'out in the open' government policy with them. Either way, my FOIA requests are beginning to stack up.

Hey Roy, what does your boss think about the way the government has been operating out in the open lately? LOL

He really is Everybody's President...so if you disagree with his policy, you should debate it. If you agree with his policy, you should stand up for it. I don't think he would want it any other way. In fact, I think he welcomes it.

"I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around [the banks] will deprive the people of all property until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered. The issuing power should be taken from the banks and restored to the people, to whom it properly belongs."

"You are a den of vipers and thieves. I intend to rout you out, and by the eternal God, I will rout you out."

"Educate and inform the whole mass of the people... They are the only sure reliance for the preservation of our liberty."
Thomas Jefferson

I am not a Right wing Hysterical nut nor a dissapointed left neocon. They are all in the same, bought and paid for puppets thrown up there to let us know how safe we all are. I am a constitutionalist. And right now our constitution is in great danger. The fact is that America has been under assault even since before our third president was elected back in 1828. And there hasn't been many presidents since then to speak up about it. Why is that? Slowly thru the years all that overseas banking money slowly started funding our presidents and showcasing them on the mainstream media outlets America has come to adore and depend on (in which they also own). This is why Dennis Kucinich and Ron Paul didn't get to participate in all of the "Agreements", ohhh i mean debates! The things those candidates had to say went against what the banksters wanted you to hear so you did not get to hear from them and they were quickly labeled as long shot candidates even though they were trying to warn us. The media learned after Ross Perot came so close and Jessie Ventura pulled a stunner off that they would not let this happen again.

Slowly these powerful elite have taken everything from America! And they want a one world currency and a one world government! A New World Order INDEED! This is what Mr. Ultra Conservative Rush Limbaugh will never tell you because he is bought and paid for by the Red team.

Jon Stewart was very critical of the President in Tuesday night's The Daily Show. I'd encourage those who are baffled by Obama's critics to watch it. Stewart is pretty mainstream. Seriously, it's not just racists and nut jobs!

SDFG: in the news just yesterday were revelations of secret Bush/Admin legal memos giving the Ex Prez the powers of a dictator. Seriously, do you think Obama is as secretive as Bush?

As for your Freedom of Information Act requests, they will not put you on a CIA wiretapping list now... but probably would have one year ago.

I have come up with something I don't agree with in our new administration and thought I would be fair and state it here!
I do not agree that we should just let the previous administration get by with their unconstitutional, illegal actions. I understand Obama is focused on the economy and that is important...but I think the investigation should include full support from the President.
I get we don't want to look back but how fair is it I would like to ask the Democrats in office that we allowed the legal shenanigans when Clinton lied about cheating on his wife and made a PUBLIC spectacle of him and Monica???...BUT we are going to let Bush's team get by with lying to us about the reasons for sending our troops into war, firing US justice's for political strategy and gain, lying to us about spying on Americans, basically instilling fear in us day in and day out in order to slowly chip away at our constitutional rights and civil liberties!!!!!
I agree we need to move on, but COME ON...these are crimes that HURT US, KILLED OUR SOLDIERS...Clinton getting some action behind his wife's back (which I dont agree with) but that only hurt Bill, Hillary and Chelsea...NOT US....It's disgusting if we let this slide by.

SDFG....you be goin to the CUNA gig next week? If s,o we need to get together to slam a few...as for my boss, all I can say is he still tapes every Rush show so that should tell you what he thinks....I don't discuss politics with him cause I can piss him off on any number of other topics so why put my job in jeopardy? ;-).

Roy: Is the CUNA dealie on the west coast? I have zero travel budget, so unless I can drive, the answer is no. :o(

Nikki: I'll match your inagreement with a positive observation about the Obama team.

HALLELUJAH! Dr. Sanjay Gupta has withdrawn from nomination for Attorney General. Gupta has been a CNN correspondent for a few years, and even though he's a doctor, his primary job has been to pitch pharmaceudicals & surgery as best options in "medical news" stories. He had been under scrutiny for his ties to big pharma, and apparently the Obama administration listened. One fewer slimebag serving in an appointed position. WOOT! WOOT!

I've heard it pointed that it takes a left foot AND a right foot to walk. Coordinating that takes some practice, as I observed recently with my little niece. It's especially hard, though, when the right foot wants to go off a cliff!

I didn't notice it until AFTER I uploaded the post, and was too busy to scope out a new one at first... then I decided to see if anyone noticed. It is so easy to but BOTH feet in your mouth!

I read that Dissident Voice article, and thought Page nailed it. Incidentally, Doug Page is a brilliant former union attorney who certainly has the needs of the workingclass situated foremost in his analysis of the current administration. Workers. They used to be what the Dems actually claimed to represent before stockholders and the "middle class" became catchwords.

YOu asked why those of us on the true left have a problem with Obama? It's been summarized at length by many of us, and I'll stop repeating myself with concerns about women's issues, the working class and Reagan-style appointments --but here goes one more time -- the gist of it in the words of Glen Ford, executive editor of Black Agenda Report:

"Obama’s military budget, bigger than Bush’s, his escalation in Afghanistan/Pakistan, the unraveling of his Iraq “withdrawal” promises, and his provocations in Africa all signal that this president has no intention of relinquishing the goal of global U.S. hegemony. To paraphrase his famous statement on war, “I’m not opposed to imperialism, just dumb imperialism.”

As for Moyers, you'd be hard pressed to find anyone in the media doing more to explore both sides of every issue -- including race and class, left and right -- with as much thoughtfulness, intellectual fairness, journalistic excellence and plain old-fashioned muckraking vigor.

Some more "Change"...NOT!!!

From the Council on Foreign Relations Website:

Remarks by National Security Adviser Jones at 45th Munich Conference on Security Policy
Published February 8, 2009

Speaker: James L. Jones

U.S. National Security Adviser Jones gave these remarks at the 45th Munich Conference on Security Policy at the Hotel Bayerischer Hof on February 8, 2009.

"Thank you for that wonderful tribute to Henry Kissinger yesterday. Congratulations. As the most recent National Security Advisor of the United States, I take my daily orders from Dr. Kissinger, filtered down through General Brent Scowcroft and Sandy Berger, who is also here. We have a chain of command in the National Security Council that exists today."

http://www.cfr.org/publication/18515/remarks_by_national_security_adviser_jones_at_45th_munich_conference_on_security_policy.html

He takes his daily orders from KISSINGER?!?!?! This guy is nothing but a globalist, he is responsible for the US foreign policy that has us in so much hot water in the world, and is bent on destroying this country from within. Period. He is also wanted in several countries for WAR CRIMES. He was on CNBC last week calling for Obama to seize the financial collapse as an "opportunity to bring in a new world order," his exact words.

Here's the real kicker: Kissinger is a REPUBLICAN. Now why is the National Security Advisor to a Democratic President taking orders from a Republican? Hmmm? This stuff is all window dressing folks, straight BS.

Wake up folks, PLEASE!!!

Your apparel need to match - at least fairly. You can find those who think it's awesome to use plaids with paisleys, and purples with grapefruits. Not only are these folks incorrect, they also seem silly. Avoid doing points out of your norm just since they are from the usual. There's normally a reason they're out from the standard. Only mix designs and colours if you actually believe they look great jointly. S6uj74ny
