Stand in Astonished History

Today, overcome with pride and a hope that no disparagement can tarnish, I offer this poem to you.

Stand in Astonished History

Stand together
in this time that we
have created, more
sacred than historic
for today we all
are better angels
transforming ourselves
and this nation we are free
to cherish once again.

Today we have
no color other than
the golden glow of those
who cross a glorious
threshold, who leave
downtrodden hopes behind
by realizing hope
is not a feast to hoard
but a single world we share.

This is our moment
to begin again, redefining
the ends that move us
forward, that light our
dreams and break
our last and darkest chains.
Today we honor
Barack Obama and ourselves
immortal in astonished history.

Today, we are awash with hope and gratitude - and glad to be among those who humbly asked that we be given this new sort of leader.
Setting FEAR aside, we go forward on the road of LOVE - a route we know that works for all kinds.
Thanks, our Yak, for your eloquent words. Always, your words show clarity of Spirit.

Beautiful, Yak. I love the clean slate of this moment: so much potential and possibility. And I can't remember ever being so glad to see Bush get on that final helicopter away. Hooray! (But typo alert: it's Barack -- not Barak!)

Ok, so now the inauguration is over. The beauty, love, speeches, dreaming, celebration, joy, smiles, & gratitude have had their stage.

Tomorrow is Monday.

And now, children, it's time for hope, prayer, sweat, unity, understanding, tolerance...and work.

Welcome to a dogs life.

What beautiful words, Pat. I have to agree with Laurie- when W and Mrs. Bush got on that copter, I was thinking "at last," but then realized, he's coming home to Texas. What an embarrassment.

Here, here! Well said, Yak!

As I'm sure you did, I proudly and freely waved my one-fingered salute as Bush flew away. That's the salute you deserve, you crooked SOB. Don't EVER come back. None of your relatives, either.

What's up with Cheney in the wheelchair? Moving boxes? Yeah, right. Okay, Heartattack Jack. He got the one-fingered salute, too.

Michelle Obama was so pretty today, she looked like First Lady Barbie. Their older daughter sure is a pretty girl, and she's even in her ugly years. Things could get real interesting 8 years from now! haha

Speaking of pretty girls, Clinton sure was chatting up the dark haired Bush twin, wasn't he? Every time they got him on camera, he was leaning in and saying something in her ear, or they were laughing together ... mmmhmmm, G-dub, you betta watch that!

I'll admit it: I like Laura Bush. She seems so nice and polite, did you see her and Michelle helping each other down those marble steps to the waiting chopper? How in the world did she get in with those awful Bushes?

...and on Tuesday, the man will begin what no human can possibly succeed at in all regards. BUT, i do believe he can make a good slice of this life better. Some sort of healing already.

It's so much fun to watch all of the festivities. I must say, I love Michelle's Jackie-revisited style choices -- and on the girls, too. Then again, I adore Michelle Obama and would have freely voted for her!!!

I must say -- the journalists are driving me crazy. If I hear one more white person say, "It's so nice to see a president and his wife... who have RHYTHM!" Also, the whole "this is a young president, the likes we haven't seen since Kennedy" is making this Gen Jones-er once again want to smack Boomers and X-ers for being so historically blind. Clinton was Obama's age when he took office. And he played sax on Arsenio Hall. ANd everyone talked about HIM being like Kennedy. I even heard a reporter say, "Obama gets it becasue he's young, he's not like the other presidents, he's 15 years younger than Clinton, so he's coming into this office with a different perspective..."

Kinda like Clinton did... SIXTEEN YEARS AGO!!!

Other than that, what a cool day. Inspiring and happy and so exciting. I can't tell you how happy it makes me to see those African American faces walking into the white house.

Seeing the Obama's dance, it's just so nice to see a 1st couple who have so much rhythm!

I stand astonished to see them go at it.

Thank you, everyone, for responding to my poem. Last night I went to a bookstore reading billed as an Obama event... and listened to a self-important rebel poet rant about how he totally got Bill Ayers, and how everything is shit, and how he spits in the eye of this election, and... well, you get the picture.

Mr. Rebel poet obviously worked out, and wore a muscle shirt to prove it, and after the reading held court for a bunch of groupies. It all just goes to show...

Sometimes carryin' pictures of Chairman Mao DOES get you laid... but the next day, you have to write another kick-ass poem to reassure yourself that the worthless shit you project on the world isn't actually, secretly... yourself.

Yak--I say we keep records so we can prove the Progessive Agenda is moving in four years...
Day One:
1.Barack retakes oath to err on the side of caution due to yesterday's fumble over the swearing in words
2.Barack calls other world leaders to reiterate that his hand is unclenched and will reach out to help solve world problems
3. Barack meets with military leaders with an agenda called Muslim-Israeli conflict
4. Barack puts a freeze on staff salaries and gets the left-over 350 some odd million (or billion?) to stimulate the economy
5. Barack puts out a plan to shut down Guantonomo (dont even ask me how to spell this?) within a year

All in a day's work people....
