Choosing Sides

"Choosing Sides" is a poem in progress, dedicated to all mothers but especially Laurie, Nikki and Stacy:

Young on the side of right
March into war and die, while
Young on the other side
Of right, also march and die;
Honor bound
To spill their unlived lives
On the dumb, indecent ground.

So Mothers on the edge of madness
Wait for their young, who die;
And Fathers wait for Justice,
As bitter days go by, while the cup of
War is stirred, tasting sadder than
Hate on both sides, and justice dies
In lands where children lie.

God sits by without choosing
A side to say is right.
Allah doesn’t lead in battle, or
Shine a healing light; for inside
God’s soul, we are dying,
Poisoned by our hate,
One Agony over two side’s fate

The right side never stops, for
Some of them would die; so the other
Right never stops, for some of them
Would die. So all, on every side
Die
Die
Die.

Stop the fight.

When my two sons (two & four yrs. old) get in a fight over a toy, one says I had the toy first, the other says no, it's mine...to me which one is "right" is not really important....teaching them how to share and resolve their differences without being hurtful (either physical or emotional) that is how the fight is solved...and the battle won.
Thanks Yak...great poem.

We cannot continue to think we can police the world. let them fight without our interference...we have enough to deal with on our own home front.

The poem is strong and very powerful. WOW

If we are to be our brothers' keeper, I think we will always be involved with other countries. To me, it's a part of being of this world. How it is handled, that's when the crackpot politics get in the way.

Roy-I agree with you on that. I just don't think it can be "solved" by us. We can't be everyone's savior...and CLEARLY we have been over there for years trying to establish a "democracy" and look how its helped??!!! There is no peace, I don't think there will be peace. It still pisses me off that people use their religion to justify killing people. Or using their religion to hide behind their hatred for others....ARRGG!!!! Really, it is sad...

We can't afford it, financially, to try to get between waring sides overseas much longer.
Why are we still protecting countries/continents who are financially stronger than we?
It doesn't make sense.
Senselessness will always be with us, and so, will problems small & big.
You humans!

Now, i gotta look for my next meal cuz I'm getting hungry.

Pat, this is lovely! People can ncever seem to resist the urge to use force instead of doing everything they can to work things out. They always seem to find a way to justify violence. When innocent lives are caught up in it, can it ever really be justified? The very word is rooted in justice. Innocents paying for the actyions of others is never justice.-Johnny

Thank you Nikki, you are right. 9/11 happened because we had not done enough to help resolve the fighting between the Jews and Palestinians. The Palestinians have been made since the US and Europe gave their land to form Israel. Then Israel took more land in 1967, and a fanatic shot RFK because we let it happen. We have lost the last 8 years, and the twin towers, because we have not insisted Israel compromise and agree to UN peacekeepers and move forward on the 2 state (country) strategy. Hamas was elected because we failed to work with Arafat and Fatah, who were corrupt and leaving their people in poverty. Hamas provided services to the Palestinian people. They are all just people trying to provide for their families, take care of their children, live in peace.

Thank you, Stacy J, for your informed comment. Middle Eastern politics are so convoluted that I sometimes find it difficult to have an opinion. As usual, being informed is the key.
