Who Was Sarah's Image Consultant?

Forget the $150,000 spent on Sarah Palin’s campaign wardrobe. What I want to know is… who was her flippin’ image consultant?

Hello… she’s still wearing her pageant hairdo. Couldn’t someone have suggested that she ixnay the beehive and go for a shaggy ends-flip? That outdated hairdo is even more the basis of Tina Fey’s impersonation than the invisible glasses.

And, not that she looks bad in her campaign clothes… it’s just that, for a paltry $150, she could have achieved the same look from Isaac Mizrahi for Target.

Maybe the reason that nearly $80K was spent at Neiman Marcus is that the store’s personal shopper took the opportunity to unload some of it’s $35,000 handbags and $3,000 shoes on Sarah… because if the stock market keeps tanking, NM is gonna be stuck with a lot of insanely-priced accessories that will end up in the sale bin at Ross.

But Sarah’s un-hockey momish wardrobe isn’t her biggest fashion quandary. By now she should have started wondering what to wear when they lead her to that stake in the public square where all the kindling has been piled.

Unsuitable for her position or not, Ms. Palin answered the GOP’s call and stepped gamely forward to infuse life and interest into the McCain ticket. But now that he is headed south in the polls, the GOP already is pointing its fickle finger of blame at Sarah. Forget sexism… that’s just plain ingratitude.

If I were Ms. Palin I would bundle up that campaign wardrobe and ship it off to the women’s shelter as soon as possible… like, before the GOP uses it to fuel the flame of its defeat pyre.

I was mad at her for doing the campaign dirty work...but I feel sorry for her because they are going to blame the downfall on her....I guess their plan backfired!!!!!

When McCain first announced her as his running mate I remember everybody freaking out. Nobody had ever heard of her and didnt know her credentials and everybody said this was a big gamble. How could he pick a relative unknown, what has he done etc etc.... Then, she turned it on and they were all excited. Now that the dust has settled, they see their initial feelings of unease seeping back in. I dont think it's fair to blame her when she was "picked". Blame the people who picked her! (Uh,not to be taking up for her because I find her political views disgusting!!)

Let's just say that Tina Faye has Sarah's look down to the last little hair pin. Probably knows just about as much about running the government. Bless us one and all.

Click here for Campbell Brown's excellent feminist commentary about Palin's clothing and the double standard at play by criticizing it and by dissecting her appearance.

Incidentally, Michelle Obama wears designer clothes and Jimmy Choo shoes. She's known for it. Obama has a very expensive watch and $2000 sunglasses. This means nothing. Incidentally, the RNC bought this stuff because sPalin doesn't have an expensive wardrobe. If Palin showed up in clothing by Walmart, we'd be excoriating her for supporting sweatshops and being anti-union. If she didn't wear makeup or have her hair styled, we'd be saying she was a "hag" or that "she needs a makeover" or any other of the lovely stuff that passes for acceptible discussion about women, provided to us regularly and non stop by the Patriarchy. Oh, but we're doing that anyway even when she has her hair styled and wears makeup. WHen's the last time someone mentioned how badly Obama needs a good tailor to fit those expensive suits of his? Or how McCain would look better with a little filler in the naso-labial area of his face?

And we wonder why so many women stay out of politics because they don't want to mess with all of this.

The issue isn't Sarah's clothing, it's hypocrisy. Her claim that she is a frugal, Joe Sixpack kind of gal is at odds with the $150,000 wardrobe.

As for Michelle and Barack... they pay for their clothing with their own money, not from campaign funds.

Thanks for the Campbell Brown link!

I don't think you want to get into what Barack pays for with those campaign funds.

If we're playing, we got to play fair with both sides.

I see no conflict of interest with the RNC using its money for its candidate. I wouldn't have a problem with Obama using campaign money for his wardrobe either. Wardrobe is part of the campaign -- it's the costumes for the theatre. Wasn't there some bruhaha from the Right about Hillary's gown being paid for by the DNC when Bill took office?

And making fun of Palin's hair style isn't about any money. It's about dissecting a woman's appearance.

I'm also not mad about the DNC paying for voice coaching and a makeover for Michelle before she went on The View. I don't see it as any different than using campaign money to pay for catering an event, staging for a speech or gas for the jets. To me, it's all wrapped up in the campaign to win -- it's not like it's taxpayer dollars.

My real heartbreak is my former beloved candidate John Edwards using HIS campaign money to pay his mistress to film him on the campaign trail. I'm still not over how mad I am at him -- because his shameful downfall took the poverty issue squarely off the Democratic table. And was I ever fooled by HIM. (I want MY contributions back!)
