Republicans Just Wanna Have Fun...

OK, all you Democrats having hissy-fits because John McCain appointed a scene-stealing beauty queen for his VP… don’t you know that Republicans just wanna have fun?

By planting Sarah Palin’s glowing peach of a face next to his, McCain isn’t just flipping a fun-loving bird to concerns about a 72-year-old cancer survivor in the White House. Since Sarah makes him look like even more of a reanimated cadaver than he already does, he's gambling that America will get the joke that Sarah is way more interesting than all those dumb economic issues that threaten us. Let’s all wave a flag and dance the two-step!

And my goodness, even if we don’t feel happy, can’t we at least act as if we are? Let’s stop reading into the somber, heart-breaking expression on Bristol Palin’s face as she stands before the cameras, her pregnancy concealed by a baby brother and a big blanket, that she might be feeling lost and confused. Let’s stop wondering what on earth that poor, exploited child might have been thinking. Get with it… who cares about one pregnant girl’s happiness when everyone is onstage having so much fun, secure in the knowledge that everything happens for the best in this best of all possible worlds?

Just get over it, Dems, that McCain has a woman VP candidate and we don’t. Let’s all be good feminists and support Sarah because she has a vagina. Let’s ignore her 2006 statement that she would oppose abortion even if her own child had been raped, because she always “chooses life.” And isn’t it lucky that her abstinence-only sex education views will likely result in so many more of those lives, as demonstrated by how well abstinence deterred teenage pregnancy in her own family? And holy cow, Democrats, let’s not make a federal case out of it because, at the time Governor Palin made her comment, Alaska's rape rate was an abysmal 2.2 times above the national average and 25 percent of all those rapes resulted in unwanted pregnancies.

And just shut UP, you Hillary supporters who feel insulted that Palin has a shot at the White House without having supported any of the feminist issues to which Hillary Clinton devoted a lifetime of talent and passion. What are you… humorless bra-burners?

Admit it, you wimpy Dems... plenty of our relatives, neighbors and coworkers have cockamamie views, which we tolerate and wouldn't dream of challenging. What's the diff if the leaders of our country also have some wacky views... like, global warming is a natural occurrence that has nothing to do with pollution of the atmosphere and our assault on the ozone layer, that creationism should be taught in public schools as an alternative to science, that polar bears should be taken off the endangered species list, etc. etc. Are you scared because leaders whose views defy logic are in a position to legislate and control our lives? Then, lighten up and do what Governor Sarah does... deny your human vulnerability... board that plane even though you have already started labor... and become what every patriot adores, a cowboy... or cowgirl. Yee-Haw!

Join the Republican fun-fest and get happy, Democrats. Through sheer genius and force of will, the Republicans have generated a blizzard of speculation to distract voters from the past eight years of scandal, stupidity and outright larceny perpetrated by the Bush administration. Wow! How fun is that!

Let’s all lower our expectations… sharpen our shit-swallowing skills… and practice ignoring the real issues facing the world, our nation and each other. Otherwise, we might have to ask ourselves… did we really think this election would be a day at Disneyland? Did we really think the moral corruption of the past two Republican terms would just go away after November 8th? Did we really think we wouldn’t have to face the Republican steam-roller and fight to take back America?

PK-its like we alway say....F 'em if they can't take a joke....You know the rest.... Any fellow Dems out there...this year...let's get the last laugh.

Amen and high five to that. ONe thing I wish the Dems would realize: the Republicans know how to rally, come together and barge ahead. I really believe if McCain had picked the corpse of Reagan as his running mate, the Right would have rallied, come together, and barged ahead with the McCain/Dead Ronnie ticket. That's what they do. THey always stick together and work as a team. Makes me wish even more that Obama would have had the courage and lack of ego to pick Hillary. She was the obvious choice -- and the unbeatable one -- and the one that might have given us a united front against the Republicans.

Not insider information, just a thought from me...I don't think it was Obamas'lack of courage or inflated ego that didn't allow him to pick Hillary as a running mate. I HOPE it was Hillary's forsight and looking into her future..at a possible chance to run again in four years...as President...I think her sights are higher than VP :) Either way, I feel blessed to have them both as large and powerful voices for my party :)

I wondered about that too, Nik. All the insidery gossip that I've read points to Obama not wanting to have Bill in HIS white house. Which is totally believable to me. Biden makes no sense if Hillary were available and HIllary's "I'll do anything for this party" makes no sense if she'd turn down VP. IT would have been her ticket to prez in 8 years.

Obama reminds me of any number of guys I've dated. Politically brilliant -- but narcissistic as hell and not exactly pinnacles of feminist behavior.

Yakpate has truly nailed it this time. I mean when us Republicans and USC grads band together there is nothing that can stop us. And with God, James Dobson and Karl Rove on our side, Obama doesn't stand a chance.

It's funny too how quickly the Dems forget who owns the Supreme Court...maybe hanging chads will remind them...we do! We did it once...actually twice for GW (what we pulled off in Ohio in 2004 was SWEET!) and we can do it again.

Palin will make an excellent President or even VP. With the support of the NRA we can finally target and eliminate the real criminals; all those damn liberal pot smokers in California. On second thought, we'll go after freedom of speech on college campus' because CA is just gonna fall into the ocean when the next big one hits so to hell with them, the Dems I say!

Laurie, I totally agree. He talks about his mother like she was some airheaded, pie-in-the-sky hippie, when in fact, she was quite accomplished. It also troubles me that he changed the pronounciation of his name from his dad's BEAR-ick (Jr. went by Barry until becoming politically ambitious) to Buh-ROCK (solid like a rock).

But, on the other hand, it's probably what you have to do to get in the door these days. I've covered my share of "career branding" sessions at industry conferences, it's not just politicians doing this stuff, even credit union folks do it. My hope is that once Obama gets in the door, he'll cast off his honkey suit and tie and put on a Dashiki and yell, "Africa in da house now, muphukas! Prepare to repent fo yo slavery, AIDS, and other greedy, imperialistic bullshit!" (it's easier if you picture Samuel L. Jackson saying it)

Pat, amazing post! You should submit this somewhere, maybe NY or SF press? I LOVE how you outed the failure of abstinence training in Palin's own home. And describing her peach of a face - man, you're such a fantastic writer!

In my opinion, the Democratic party is so ineffective, the top leadership - Clintons, Biden, Pelosi, Dean - either needs to be replaced, or true liberals should go to another party that better represents them. There are too many of us, and we have too much money and education to NOT have stopped all of this madness by now. Our Democratic leaders do not represent us. They don't support impeachment. They don't own up to our war crimes - not just George W. Bush's, the United States of America's. They allowed two fixed elections. They sold out health care, and still, even now, continue to blather on and on about "coverage", not health care. Poop sandwich to them. The enemies aren't just Bush and the neocons, they're the pussies and sell-outs that enable them.

Could we possibly join forces with the disenfranchised Republicans at Ron Paul's Rally for the Republic? Jesse Ventura gave one hell of a speech there.

Word.

I've been ranting throughout the primary that I hate the fact that my party has not only been complicit in the neocon travesty, but taken the worst of Rovian tactics themselves. I'm finding it awfully hard to tell who the good guys are anymore.

I don't want anarchy -- I have a small child. I want some kind of dignity and honesty back along with an actual liberal agenda -- not Austan Goolsbee's disaster capitalism behind the curtain of "Change." I also want my party back for the people -- not just for big university student union protest causes like global warming. I'm all for saving the environment -- but I worry about working class families, unions and health care. You know hell has frozen over when the woman in the race who is a lifetime union member married to a lifetime Democrat native American is... a Republican?

Still smiling at that Obama played by Sam Jackson image.

Ummm.... how come all of you that are bitching and whining about the lack of Democratic balls or bitch ass Palin vagina's aren't getting involved with the party on a local or state level to make a change as opposed to just talking about it?

If you want change do something just don't talk about it.

Roy, you might want to watch who you are accusing of not getting involved. Some of us have had decades in the trenches fighting for the Democratic party. You really don't want to poke this hornet's nest.

Actually, he talks about his mother with respect and love. He talks about how hard she worked to go to school and raise two kids. He talks about how she woke up with him at 4:30 in the morning to help him with his school work. He talks about how she taught her children to look out for other people and stand up for people with differences....doesnt sound like an airhead to me!

Thanks PKaye for the reality check. I'm afraid I was thinking it would be smooth sailing to the inauguration next January. With Hillary's hand on the bible... OK so I recovered by the end of the convention I was feeling much better. Then I got slapped in the face by this insult of a VP candidate. I thought it has to be the worse choice even if you support John McCain. Then my naivety began to fade, when a friend mentioned how happy the neo cons are. What a fabulous way to distract the fanatics, who will get all the media attention, while the neo cons continue to plot the next chapter. Permanent bases in Iraq and the invasion of Iran.
Let's get the Obama/Biden party started, talk intelligence, issues, and substance. And attack when necessary. It is not sexist to point out Palin's inadequacies, they can not get away with that.
Back to reality...

Thank you to everyone who commented... and dissented... on this satiric view of a cresting political wave. I love a good argument, and my friends on the angry Left and thoughtful Center mixed it up brilliantly. Members of the smug, complacent Right also are invited to comment.
